Last saturday we attended the "Bantay Bata 163 UAAP/NCAA All-Star Games".

I have never been to the all-star game and it was surreal. People of all ages and classes flocked to the stadium to see their favorite basketball players. They had their pens and camera phones ready. Most were prepared to pounce on their idols just to have their pictures taken and to ask for autographs. Being a basketball aficionado, i realized that our all-star games aren't just about the basketball aspect per se. It's literally an afternoon when supporters can go crazy over their own personal superstars. Naturally, all my love and support go the Ateneo Blue Eagles but because i am an Atenean i am used to seeing these players. My jaw dropped when i saw countless of girls trying to get JC, Macky, Doug, Jai and Chris's attention (the description that comes to mind -- a fan club pandemonium). Pictures were taken from every angle. I saw one girl have her picture taken with Jai at least 3 times. The ladies a few rows from me made JC sit in between them just to have their picture taken with him. The girls behind me gushed with envy as their friends told them how they got pictures with Chris. The people sitting at the section to my right excitedly whispered to each other how they saw JC arrive and go straight to the dugout (and they were more than 15 feet away!). I noticed that one girl almost had hearts coming out of her head as she hurriedly told her friends how Macky remembered her (having previously met him i assume) and how he gave her a high-five. I tried to listen to the conversations people had around me and i just couldn't help but laugh out loud. Autographs were signed left and right -- on papers, tickets, jerseys and even on the t-shirts that these girls had on. Even the guys were going ballistic. It was
insane. But amidst the chaos was a calming relief of sportsmanship and clean, good fun! Great job guys! And Mr.Sam Ekwe--You are one scary man! :D 'Till next year's games!

*today i am thankful for message archives and eavesdropping powers :)
